Waterstones have transformed the city in its mesmerising combination of cafe culture (through Costa's upstairs) and the most wonderful atmosphere for browsing and exploring books. They hold the most comprehensive collection of books, calendars and diaries with a historic Coventry and Warwickshire theme, and the shop regularly attracts a mix of new and famous authors for book signings and readings. Recommendations come fast and thick - and it's always clear that for the staff working here it is less a job and more vocational.
